1) Can you eat CLIF BARS if you are allergic to nuts?
If someone is allergic to any nut or seed they should not eat any flavour. The bars are made on the same lines as flavours containing nuts and seeds and even with very strict washing procedures we are unable to remove all nut/seed residue. All Clif Bar Inc. bars may contain nuts, seeds or nut/seed residue.

2) What if I am allergic to nuts and have eaten the bars before with no reaction?
This may have just been chance. The amount of nuts, seeds or nut/seed residue varies from bar to bar and may never be the same. You take a risk with each individual bar. It is recommended those with nut or seed allergies do not eat CLIF BAR or LUNA.

3) Are CLIF BARs kosher?
Yes, CLIF BARS are certified Kosher Dairy with the OUD symbol. CLIF BARs do not contain any ingredients that contain dairy products, however they contain ingredients that are produced on the same manufacturing equipment as other products that do contain dairy. Therefore, CLIF BARs must be labelled as Kosher Dairy.

4) Are CLIF BARs certified organic?
Yes, all CLIF BARs are made with 70% organic ingredients and are certified by QAI (Quality Assurance International).

6) Are there any animal products in CLIF BARs?
CLIF BARs do not contain any ingredients that come from animals.

7) Is there any MSG in CLIF BARs?
Clif Bar Inc. is committed to keeping MSG out of our products. Clif Bar Inc. specifies that the ingredients in CBI products do not contain MSG. MSG does not show up in ingredient statements provided from our suppliers.

8) Does CLIF BAR contain any bio-engineered (GMO) ingredients?
At Clif Bar Inc we use the best available practices, including careful sourcing of our soy suppliers and written certification that the soy they provide us has been tested and is non-bio-engineered (non-GMO), to ensure that all ingredients are non-GMO.

We cannot guarantee 100% non-GMO 100% of the time, as there is always a chance of a slight cross-pollination in processing, shipping or handling of the raw materials. CLIF BARs are consistent with the National Organic Program standards that specify that no certified organic products can contain GMO ingredients.

9) What are the approximate diabetic exchanges of the bar?
A CLIF BAR has a good balance of carbohydrate, fat and protein with approximate diabetic exchanges of: 3 carbohydrates, 1 Lean Protein, 1 fat.

A CLIF BAR is approximately equal in carbs, fat, and protein to a 3oz bagel with one tsp. of butter and 8oz low fat yogurt.

A CLIF BAR is a convenient bar for active people with diabetes who may need to eat a small snack before a heavy workout lasting one hour or more. A CLIF BAR can also be good when your usual food choices are not available: on a several hour hike, traveling on a long road trip, or a full day at the amusement park.

10) Why is soy the protein source in CLIF BAR?
Protein is an important part of the diet and especially important for athletes in recovery and pre-race meals. Many people prefer products that do not contain animal sourced ingredients and soy protein is a good, non-animal source of protein. Soy protein is the highest quality non-animal source of protein containing all essential amino acids (a complete protein).

CLIF BAR contains 6-10 grams of soy protein, which is important for maintaining a balanced diet and good heart health.

1) What are "UVB" and "UVA"?
UVA - long-wave solar rays of 320 - 400 nanometers
UVB - short-wave solar rays of 290 - 320 nanometers

2) What Is the Difference Between UVA and UVB?
Sunlight consists of two types of harmful rays--UVA rays and UVB rays. The UVB rays are the sun's burning rays (which are blocked by window glass) and are the primary cause of sunburn and skin cancer. UVA rays (which pass through window glass) penetrate deeper into the base layer of the skin. They also contribute to skin burning and skin cancer. Both UVA and UVB rays can suppress the immune system that helps to protect you against the development and spread of skin cancer.

1) What luggage locks should I use when traveling?
We recommend using the new TSA (Transport Security Administration) accepted Travel Sentry™ locks which are now available. If you do use a regular lock and the TSA needs to inspect your luggage when you're not around, they have the right to cut the lock off your bag.
The Travel Sentry™ Certified locks have a special identification mark (diamond logo) and code which are recognized and accepted by the TSA. When, the TSA staff at all US commercial airports see this mark, they use the code and secured tools to open the lock and re-lock it after inspection.

2) Can I use a different lock than the ones you provide with your products?
Yes. Where a lock is included with our products, using a different size or combination lock instead is perfectly acceptable the shackle diameter should not be less than that of the padlocks provided with your product. With some of our products, you just need to ensure the shackle fits through the locking device and prevents the locking bead from pulling through.

3) What is eXomesh?
eXomesh is a revolutionary "interlocking security system" developed to be at the core of Pacsafe's line of travel security products. eXomesh combines lightweight and flexible high-tensile stainless steel mesh, cable and crimps, bullet-proof polycarbonate lock links and next generation nylon laminate technology to create a safety cell around your valuables. eXomesh has been branded to endorse the unique security features and R&D at the heart of the Pacsafe products compared with competitor's equivalents. Please visit www.exomesh.com for further information.

4) What does it take to cut the wire?
The Pacsafe netting is made of high tensile stainless steel wire, which is difficult to cut even with sharp pliers. Also there are many wire loops that would have to be cut to remove the pack. Pliers on the other hand cannot cut the draw wire. At one of the tradeshows someone tried to cut the draw wire with a Leatherman. The draw wire was damaged but the tool became distorted and failed to work properly afterwards. Opportunistic theft and breaking and entering with intent are two very different types of theft, the latter being much less common. Once again it is opportunistic theft we are protecting against with the Pacsafe, which is by far the most common type of luggage and pack related theft.

5) Is Pacsafe packaging recyclable?
Packaging is an integral part of our products and the first point of contact with our brand for the consumer. It helps convey product information and aesthetically looks pleasing. Here at Pacsafe we have a clear line of responsibility for the environment to ensure where possible environmental policies and goals are being adopted. In 2004, we have modified our packaging and we are now using polypropylene that is 100% fully recyclable.

6) How can I take care of my Pacsafe products?
We recommend that all our products be spot cleaned with warm water and mild detergent, and air-dried in the shade.

1) Are wool socks and base layers too hot and itchy for exercise?
Cheap, poorly made wool products are. SmartWool products are not. SmartWool uses the longest and finest wool fibres available. The result: softer, more comfortable wool with none of the lower grade wool's "prickle effect". This wool selection combined with SmartWool technology provides the best means of maintaining your Optimum Body Temperature - absorbing and evaporating sweat to ensure your skin will stay cool and comfortable during exercise.

2) I know that wool is warm in the winter. How can it keep me cool in the summer?
SmartWool socks keep your feet cool by keeping both your foot and shoe lining dry. Moisture magnifies temperature extremes - hot or cold. For feet, wet equals uncomfortable. Wool wicks and evaporates moisture far better than any fibre - synthetic or cotton. As your body heats up through exercise, the wicking/evaporation rate of SmartWool increases as well. This same concept applies to SmartWool's base layers - by keeping your body dry you stay cool and comfortable in varying conditions.

3) Doesn't synthetic also wick moisture?
All synthetic can do is wick, or move, moisture from one side to another - with socks, moisture moves from your foot to the lining of your shoe. The result: wet shoes, wet synthetic socks and wet uncomfortable feet. SmartWool has hollow core fibres with microscopic air pockets that wick, absorb, evaporate moisture as well as insulate against extreme heat and cold. These properties allow wool to use your body heat to convert moisture into vapour, and allow the vapour to evaporate.

4) Aren't cotton socks best for hot weather activities?
No, they are even worse then synthetics. Aside from being an abrasive fibre, cotton gets wet and stays wet, holding moisture close to your skin. Your feet get hot and become tender. Cotton socks are the quickest route to blistered feet. SmartWool's ability to keep feet and shoe linings dry is vital for prevention of blisters.

5) Why is wool better?
Wool is better than any other fibre at assisting the body's natural thermoregulation process - controlling body temperature by wicking, evaporating, absorbing and insulating so the body works at maximum efficiency, all the time. This maximum efficiency is called Optimum Body Temperature (OBT).

6) Explain Optimum Body Temperature.
Optimum Body Temperature (OBT) is the temperature at which your body performs most efficiently during any physical activity. There are three distinct phases during any physical activity; 1) a heating up period before reaching OBT 2) maintaining OBT throughout the activity and 3) as activity diminishes, a gradual cooling off period. If the Optimum Body Temperature is not properly regulated throughout the heating up, maintaining and cooling-down process the athlete runs the risk of muscle damage.

7) How are SmartWool products different from all the merino wool products on the market?
In many ways. SmartWool uses a higher-grade merino wool then other manufacturers and we use more of it. SmartWool products are also constructed differently than most other wool products. The entire product line is designed with 100% SmartWool next to your skin - no other fibre comes into contact with you.

8) What's the difference between SmartWool and merino wool?
Merino is nice, but it's not SmartWool.
  • SmartWool uses a finer grade wool than any other merino product on the market.
  • SmartWool technology eliminates shrinking.
  • SmartWool is safe for machine washing and drying.
  • SmartWool products are softer than other merino wools guaranteed not to itch and outperform any other product on the market.
9) Will SmartWool products shrink if I put them in the dryer?
Nope.

10) What if I don't like them?
If SmartWool products aren't the most comfortable, best performing socks or apparel you've ever owned, return them to the store where they were purchased within 30 days for a full refund.

1) What is UV? and How does UV Purify water?
UV is high energy light. Wavelengths of light are measured in nanometers (NM). A nanometer is one billionth of a meter. SteriPEN™ is emitted at 254 nm on the UV-C range. Germicidal UV light (between 240 nm and 290 nm) damages a microbe’s DNA, thereby preventing reproduction. Without the ability to replicate the DNA, the microbe cannot reproduce and is rendered harmless.

2) Can I use SteriPEN in Dirty or Discoloured water?
SteriPEN is intended for use with clear water. Discoloured or dirty water should be pre-filtered until clear prior to SteriPEN treatment.

3) What kind of water volume can SteriPEN treat?
SteriPEN can treat two ranges of water volume:
  • up to 16 ounces
  • between 16 and 32 ounces
4) How does SteriPEN disinfect water?
SteriPEN uses short wave germicidal UV light to disinfect water. This range of UV light destroys the DNA within bacteria, viruses and protozoa, rendering them unable to reproduce and therefore, harmless. UV treatment is a proven and long-accepted method for disinfecting drinking water.

5) What cold weather considerations should I be aware of?
If SteriPEN is at a temperature below 32F/0 C, it should not be used. Bring SteriPEN up to a temperature above 32 F/0 C before using. Also, battery performance may be adversely affected by cold weather.

6) When do I have the Ultraviolet lamp replace? And how do I know it’s time to replace it?
While our research on test lamps has shown acceptable UV output levels after more than 9,000 cycles, we recommend replacing the lamp after 5,000 treatments. SteriPEN’s internal mico-controller counts the number of doses the laps has completed. Beginning at the completion of dose number 4,900 and continuing through the completion of the next 100 doses, SteriPEN’s green LED will flash slowly and then remain steady. This is to notify the user that the current dose was completed, but that the lamp should be replaced. When the counter reaches 5,000 doses, SteriPEN will disable the lamp and the red LED will flash slowly. SteriPEN will not function until the lamp is replaced. For lamp replacement, call Hydro-Photon, Inc. at (888)826-6234 for cost and shipping instructions.
